Each year SWEA San Diego hosts a Christmas market in Balboa Park, as a part of December Nights. For this market, a raffle is put together, to which members and other Swedes in the area donate prizes.
The whole profit from the raffle is then donated to a local organization which helps women and children progress in life.
One example of an organization that has received a donation from SWEA San Diego is IRC, the International Rescue Committee, which exists globally and helps refugees from war stricken regions start new lives. In San Diego they run a school for women and a preschool for children.
SWEA SAN Diego tries throughout the year to aid events in San Diego County which tie in to Swedish culture.
Among other things, SWEA has sponsored exhibits like 17 Swedish Designers (May 2011) and Swedish Minds (June 2013), which were arranged by the Swedish Center and the Consulate of Sweden.
SWEA San Diego has even sponsored cultural events such as Swedish children’s theatre for the Swedish School’s students and theatre such as “Värmlänningarna” (June 2013).
Contact our president Annica Backlund if you have questions regarding SWEA San Diego’s ability to sponsor a cultural event.
